Mashing Blogs and the Knowledge Radio
Notes: we place here the discussion of the Knowledge Radio idea.
Ideas
- Social text tools that can be used in blogs
- Writing about dynamic texts – from twitter to blogs
- Writing ahead – preparing tools to track something not yet written
- Collect stuff on “Facebook and Privacy”
What are the tools?
The tools could focus on big questions that users what to answer:
- What’s the difference?
- What’s the big idea?
- What are the trends?
- What’s happening?
What are trying to do?
Different types of texts that general web savy users would like to process
- Process a blog
- Read ahead – set up a way to study stuff being written as in alerts on dynamic texts
- Stuff gathered about a name, brand or idea
Different types of writing tools for information society
- Where are people coming from tool
- Social network analysis tool
Provide writing tools
- Knowledge radio – gathers stuff and bubbles
- Encycle It –
- “Get It” – takes keywords and does some mix of googlizing, or whatever to gather corpus with last modified info
- Get It could use google
- could be given a URL to aggregate
- scrape starting from a URL
- spider
- blog or news scraper
- Cleaner – cleans up the corpus and discards what you don’t want
- Sliding window view
Issues
- Problem of difference – finding things that are different enough
Tools Across the Process
The idea is to create tools and results pages that can be easily “quoted”.
Tool Quoting – ability to get a HTML form code or an object code that can be dropped into your blog, wiki or durpal
- Provide a reference for a process
- How do we reference a tool as if it had interpretative value – we need to establish good practices
Results Quoting – we want to be able to easily drop a small snapshot of the results into an essay and that would expand out.
- How would one edit results before taking snapshot as in choosing subset of words before getting word count
- How to get results that will print – how to get resolution independent quotes
